Radio Data System Encoder RDS1

RDS1
Radio Data System Encoder

What is RDS?
RDS means Radio Data System and is the possibility to send simultaneously with the radio transmission additional information without interferring with it. A similarity can be done with the video-teletext.

What is the use of it?
If you have a radio receiver with an alfanumeric display, you will be able to read the name of the station you listening to, to find it on other frequencies, to receive traffic information ...... The rest, up to your fantasy !

What is loosing who has no RDS?
Listeners of course! Listen to a radio station with RDS is easear, because you read the name of the station and can be quickly found with automatic tuning if it is transmitting on several frequencies.

The RDS1 Encoder
The RDS1 was developed with the idea to make it easy-to-use at an interesting price. This challenge did not take anything away from the quality or all the facilities RDS should have. The simplicity have been achieved eliminating unnecessary and complicated programming operations. The equipment will be give to you ready-to-use with the requested messages.

Programming
Thou, a RS232  port will give you the possibility to program the RDS1 any time as you wish, all you need is a PC.

Traffic and Music/Speech
The traffic and the Music/Speech signal are controlled from the front panel. The Music/Speech signal sets a different equalisation and volume to those receivers having this feature.
The Traffic signal will set in Pause-mode the cassette player and will give the traffic info.

Alternative Frequencies
An alternative frequencies list will enable the receiver to select out of it the one with the strongest level. To make life easier for the receiver, the list should be the same for all, so it can be immediately memorised. To do so, we will need a RDS coder at each repeater station. Each message can have its own alternative frequencies list with 50 or 25 kHz channel steps, either in A or B modus.

Installation
The RDS1 has an in/output MPX port with nominal level at 0 dB.
The RDS signal will be add to the MPX at-30 dB. The RDS1 will be connected between the stereo coder and the exciter, no further regulation are required. If the MPX should not be at nominal level, with an internal regulation it can be adapted without interfering with the original signal.
An additional RDS output is available if the RDS signal should be sent to a second line.

Remote Control
With a remote control is possible to change the RDS messages, i.e.: change the alternative frequencies list, kind of program, info about the transmitter, etc. This is done from the audio technician directly from the studio.
If you have an automatic system it can be done from the system itself.

Special features
All non standard features as the person search and text transmission are possible on request..
